There’s a Cammy Perching Right Offscreen

I think I’ve overdosed on GH2 as of late. Really, been every day with this game for about a week now. Made a gigantic mess of my desktop with it, stuff all over, debugging, testing, charting–I think I’ll be going back to being a good little storyteller for a bit. Not done with it, plenty of stuff to do with it–but man, my head feels pressurized today.

Nevertheless, here’s April’s custom a few days early. It’s for the only Silversun Pickups track not to appear in a five-lane rhythm game of any repute, “Substitution”. And being a Power Gig-based custom (I hesitate to say port, the chart’s all mine), I had to do a lot of tweaking to get the audio where it probably should be for GH2. Many, many builds just to see if limiting things another 2db fixes my woes. Oh, not to mention when my testing disc gave up the ghost briefly! That was a lot of trial and error I still need to do more of.

Nah, but on the bright side, I’m damn happy with how this came out. One of the game’s events I abused throughout this is setting everyone to half tempo, meaning in the blown out, epic parts of the song, everyone goes into slow motion. It looks fucking great. This will be the video I point to when I show exactly what GH2 customs in 2021 can look like and play like.

My adventure’s also let me step back and come back to decide what I’ll do with marfGH, which was previously an “eventually” project for a long time. I’ve been thinking I’ll repurpose the tiny ISO I was using to test charts, get a good mix of ports and my own customs in there, and release it as that marfGH demo I was intending about a year back now. Means I can also see how it runs on hardware thanks to my friends in the scene. (And mon.) Thanks, lads!

But yeah, as you can well imagine, I should probably temper myself before I burn out on it. I have to thank MiloHax for getting me out of my little three month depressive hangover, but I also currently have Pennyverse drafts sitting on my real-life desk that I’d like to finish, get typed up, and sent off to Somnol people for that sweet sweet group high. Perhaps a Monthly Mixtape in a few days, definitely a recap–coming back down off the tinnitus of standing too close to the amps. Good times ahead.
