Wallpapers as marketing material aren't really anything new; in fact, they're always a bit of a time capsule. Not just because they're tied to a piece of media that instantly dates it, but that the wallpaper itself was designed for the screens of the time, and usually saved in JPEG to boot. This means that trying to use an old wallpaper usually makes for a blurry mess.

One of the original HGSS wallpapers

That brings us to this set of vintage 2007 Pokémon HeartGold/SoulSilver box wallpapers. They looked pretty nice, but they were absolutely caked in logos and writing and looked way too soft when stretched on my big screen. Good opportunity to restore them, by tracing each one at a much higher resolution. I kept them blocky because it fits the game's aesthetic pretty nicely.

I like how they came out, so I figured I'd upload them so you can use them too. These are in PNG, so they'll scale nicely no matter your monitor size. Click to open, or click here to download them all in one go.

Fist coming out of a Poke Ball I think there was a really traditional Japanese town in Johto, I guess this is from that Ho-Oh soaring Lugia swimming Pichu and spiky-eared Pichu Team Rocket Chikorita, Totodile, Cyndaquil Man, I don't even remember who that goofy bastard is, but he looks familiar
