possums!
the virginia opossum is a small gray furry cat-rat-like mammal which inhabits both the west coast and everything east of the rocky mountains! they are not only omnivores, but also the only marsupial native to the united states!
do not confuse the australian possum with the north american opossum! australian possums are softer and smaller and they screech really loudly and they're not related at all!
here are reasons why possums are cool! (i am referring to the virginia opossum as the possum because i am lazy!)
- possums are primarily nocturnal, like you and me!
- virginia opossums evolved fairly recently but their bone structures date back to the dinosaurs and shit!
- possums really like to eat bananas!
- possums almost never get rabies due to their low body temperatures! sick!
- possums!
- possums only look like they have such sharp black eyes because their pupils are extremely dilated!
- possums rarely actually attack, despite being scared as shit!
- possums don't actually play dead, it's an involuntary response, meaning they completely collapse when faced with actual threats, like you and me!
- possums!!!
