Writing Returns to Gopher!

Was holding off on doing this until I had all the stories in for the year, but I’ve finally gotten around to resorting my writing page, making it a little less discombobulated and keeping only the ones I still like, and more importantly, getting most of the Pennyverse stories up on Somnolescent’s Gopher server again.

RetroZilla displaying the Pennyverse stories menu
It’s a nostalgic sight, in a weird way, even though it was only two years ago. The older Pennyverse stuff just feels like it was meant to be read in text file form, I guess…

If you weren’t around back when we initially launched the Gopherhole in late 2018, my stories were up on there, but when I brought it back earlier this year, I didn’t really care to carry them over. Now that I’ve got a few better ones under my belt, I do. Some of the ones I like less than the others are listed as “outtakes”, and if I have a change of heart about the other older ones, they’ll be under that banner too.

I’ve also reformatted all the stories to be 80-column and use Markdown. As far as I know, there are no Gopher clients that can natively parse Markdown (which is a shame), but I write all the text files in it anyway in case someone wants to download them and read them in a Markdown viewer or something (if such a thing exists).

I mean, that’s ostensibly what Gopher’s for, right? Retrieving files and then reading them offline…?

My cleaner, tweaked stories page
I still have no clue why I don’t call it the “stories” page. Maybe next redesign.

This is just a smaller update, since I’ve really been meaning to do it for months now. I’m gonna go shower now.
