dotcomboom Escargot

Escargot is a messenging service that started as a replacement server for MSN and Windows Live Messenger. It was started in 2017 by a dude named valtron, and is currently being maintained by him, walkingphasers and some other people. It's easy to get into, preserves years worth of old software and in my opinion, is just more fun to use over more current platforms.

Although it started as a server for MSN 7.0 and below, now up to Windows Live Messenger 8.5 is supported with WLM 2009 and even Yahoo! Messenger 5.x support on the way as well. Typically I use Windows Live Messenger 8.1, as I like its look the best.

I wrote a guide on media player integrations for Windows Live Messenger. I have also worked on a couple of my own utilities, such as Multi Messenger Presence (uses MessengerDotNet) and Web Status (Messenger Plus! plugin and Flask-based webapp to publish your status online). There is also Handwriting Tool available as a download on my Software page.
