She blinks in disbelief. "She just—left you?" The Guardian tries to control herself, but you see her eyes glowing red, like magma in a volcano. "That's awful. I'm sorry, I really am."
"It was probably something I did anyway."
"Come now, don't be ridiculous..."
"I drive everyone away. It's just how I am."
"Colton...listen, I only just met you, but you shouldn't beat yourself up like that." The corner of her mouth pulls and her eyes simmer to an anxious yellow. "You're not like that, I can tell. You're just a kid."
"I don't know." You hope she's right, you hope you're not vile and repulsive—but it's hard to tell sometimes. You wanna be better.
After a long pause, her eyes return to normal. "Why don't you come with me to the orchard? I take it you could use something to eat."
