You step onto the simple little bridge (which is really more of a set of stairs and a walkway than anything else) and climb it, taking you up to the top of a hill overlooking a cul-de-sac at the bottom. It's your first real peek at town since you got here. Simple houses with vinyl or vibrantly colored stucco siding, plenty inviting compared to the dirty brick and concrete of The City.
You stumble your way down the grassy hill and onto the sidewalk, surprised (though pleasantly) at the lack of anyone around. Granted, this seems to be the dead end to a side street, but nevertheless, you'd expect someone at least to be out on a stroll or chatting or...you don't know what you'd expect, honestly. This is all new to you.
