Green Mind

Happy March, people. High of 45F today (7C–we are international here at Somnolescent…). Not exactly sunbathing weather out, but window goes open nonetheless. Bring on spring, bring on the melt, cast off the mind fog.

I’ll be shutting down my computer and going to work off the eMachines box in a bit, but I figured I’d mention the new look before I left! Yes, I’d actually found several flavors of nonzero (my blog theme) hidden in dcb’s wordpress.net crawl, and I decided to bring them up to speed with the traditional red nonzero I’ve been using for coming up on a year now.

My new green version of nonzero
Even though as I write this, you’re probably looking right at it, but here’s what I’m referring to for future reference.

I’ve got three now; red nonzero, green nonzero, and a dark nonzero I’ll use next winter, I think. I vaguely remember a purple nonzero floating out there, and if it actually exists and I can source that out, I’ll have one for each season.

Unsurprisingly, they weren’t too terribly different in structure, but I toyed with the layouts just enough that I had to go through them with a comb and make sure things matched. I also fixed some bugs that’ve plagued the blog for a while now, namely those cut-off icons above each post.

I was amazed at how godawful the spacing was in the original stylesheets. Seriously, have a comparison in N++ (original on the right):

How I space my stylesheets versus how other people space their stylesheets
CSS and HTML spacing is something I’m pickier about than I’d like to admit (seriously, fuck that minified junk), but I think mine are plenty readable while still being fairly compact. (Click for full-size, as always.)

Anyway, new color scheme! I’m fond of it. Had it knocking around since early February and I’ve been looking forward to switching it over. Alright, gonna go hydrate and get on something. (Gotta grab my SFTP passwords too so I can actually properly work on sites on the eMachines box too…)
