Pro-Catastrophe

I try to avoid politics and religion on the Scratchpad because honestly, it’s been a pleasant safe haven from the march of opinions, even my own, even for me. I try to keep it all focused on my work because it’s ultimately what’ll matter when I’m 30 and looking back at this thing. And for sure, I’ll have more to post soon; editing has begun on the Gonzo story. Expect that soon.

With as much as I’ve had to sit through dinners of MSNBC background chatter though (because people dying really gets me hungry), I just gotta stop and wonder how tens of thousands of people turned “flatten the curve” into “please never go outside again”. We’re massively under the amount of deaths we were targeted to have in the US, we’ve got treatments, the number of new confirmed cases is trailing off, yet doomsday never ends, there’s no hope, and everything’s only gonna get worse.

My only guess is that everyone really wants a big, catastrophic depression. Here’s your theme song then.

(And to tie it back into the point of the Scratchpad, maybe I’ll start up Otherwhere again later this year. Still love me some Failure, just hated what I was writing. Sure enough, they have a boxset with an additional disc of outtakes out right now that I didn’t even know about, so…gonna have to find that at some point.)

I do believe it’s coming
Don’t dread its approach
The only preference I might have is that I
Hope to see it

Could start with an invasion
Or maybe a creeping flood
The bomb’s so boring
I wanna see some blood

People in the streets
I mean the ones that live in houses
I wanna see them screaming
“Holy mother, sweet Jesus”

I may seem a bit morbid
Which I don’t really care to deny
‘Cause when it hits, I’ll be laughing
And you’ll just start to cry

Young and old and middle-aged
Domesticated creatures as well
There are other ways to look at this
Than a state of living Hell

As your friends, relatives, and acquaintances
Perish in catastrophe
Just think of it as the best movie
You’ll ever hope to see

It’s got action, violence
Rape is there too
Starvation, whole nations
And it’s all for me and you

It’s got everything you wanted
Plus, admission is free
There’s only one catch
It’s compulsory
