I Came for the Surf

And now, for the first project of the year that could feasibly go in a recap: the Seamount Navigator! This one’s been a work-in-progress for a bunch of days now, as has every other project in the chamber, but just like last January, I’m a bit slow and sleepy right now. That’s alright, though. Not uncomfy this year, that’s for sure, and we’ve got old sites to peek through at least.
Of course, if you’re a Cammy orbiter of a certain vintage, you probably remember me at the helm of the original Neocities Districts. Listing sites for your viewing pleasure isn’t anything new for me, but what’s new here is the subject matter. This is all explicitly “small web” stuff, that is, sites maintained by a single person on their own hosting. The Somnolians love tossing links to shit like this around, and I do too.
At current, there’s netlabel stuff to jam out to, webcomics to peek at, lots of pictures of caves and rocks and night skies–whole lot to get lost in. It’s my little token of appreciation to a world of sites Google won’t give you. At least on Neocities, you could maybe find the smaller guys through browsing the site directories, but out in the vacuum of the net, no way. We need all the links we can get.
I have a ton of other sites that can go up on this page, but those will have to wait while I finish up five other projects I started this month. At the moment, I’m debating making it its own subsite, given that as I was working on this, everyone else started making their own links pages. Think our cumulative efforts would be better served on an official seamounts.somnolescent.net. Gives us a chance to unveil the new official Somnolescent mascot too…
I’m weirdly sleepy today. Got dishes to do and then I’ll probably be asleep by 10PM. Living that old web rock star life. Rediscovering in a day or two too, looking like another good one.
