Seb and the Normal, Wholesome(?) Flu

In the end, it was her smile more than any miserable explanation I could’ve given that brought the oxygen back. I looked up at her for a moment, decompressing and wrapping myself around one of my pillows, knowing at least she didn’t think I was weird for what had happened.
I mean, not that I was concerned about that or anything.
“You could’ve just come through town, though.”
“Yeah, but…you know how I am about crowds and germs, Cat…”
“Barns and dirt are more your thing?”
“Hhheee…” Man, she even had me giggling somehow. “I guess so now…” I mumbled to her, still sick, but relieved and sleepy all the same.
And a sigh of relief has been breathed, for the final story I wanted to get done for the year is finally done: one little tender moment between Seb and Cat in “A Fuzzy, Stuffy Stupor”. This one comes from the ashes of the fallen Halloween Special; in fact, that tape being referenced throughout is the Halloween Special. But alas, wasn’t meant to be; just wasn’t feeling the vibes this year, you know? I think this is a more than acceptable substitute though. (Might still revisit it one day.)
Something really did snap in me back in September. I always knew Pennyverse had to be very cartoony, lads being goofy mixed in with the gloom, the mystery, and the heartwarming bits, but I just couldn’t get there. Couldn’t make it happen, never felt capable of it, was worried about sounding retarded. One of those classic creative nerves you just kinda have to work through.
The best way I can describe it now is like a different mindset, like going “what’s the most ridiculous and interesting way I can approach this situation?” And really, it’s been paying off dividends ever since. Love it when I write something that makes me giggle. Genuinely isn’t something I’m used to or ever experienced before recent. I also love being able to make use of random conversations and shitposts in stories (yes, that’s a real dream Caby had at the start! I was the unlucky diagnosed instead…).
At this point, NoFEMBR is mostly just a few smaller bits and pieces here and there. There’s still one more Rediscovering I’d like to get done for 2020, Misery Inspires is still due an update, I’d like to rearrange my site’s writing page and get some of the stories I’m less enthused about (but still don’t hate) on the Gopher instead as “outtakes”, and I have some things to get done for dcb. Beyond that, that’s really it for me for the year.
And given that I’m pretty much already in that mode, I can’t wait.
