Undone

Hi, been a little bit. In truth, I’m really not too sure where I’ve been lately, but that just makes the song more appropriate. Been sleepy all day, but we got a double header of Cammy content at long last. Firstly, I’ve finally got “Ranking Spotify’s Top 50 Songs Named “Undone”” up and posted on Letters. It was kind of a lark, kind of a lot of work, but definitely a fun topic. A lot of kooky music to discover in that pile. I still have the next Rediscovering to carry out, and it too is on a compilation of random artists. I’ll get on it now that this one’s in the can.

More excitingly, I’ve at long last got another story complete! This one, I started probably weeks ago now, but the real left-field (for me) bits about it only came in the past few days, namely, the voice I wrote it in. I kinda had a mini-freakout around the 15th about character voices (is a mental thing, getting into the heads of characters far more limber than yourself), so getting something like this done has been pretty liberating. Ideally, there’s still something for Pennyverse in the tank for September; if not, I’ve got stuff with Seb going on in the background that I’m pretty excited to show off when the time’s right.

Admittedly, it’s another Pinede story (and yes, that’s been introduced to the lads now, they love it), but here, have a snippet anyway:

“Ravaging insomnia? Yes, certainly…I have just the recipe…” The woman stood tallying something in a pad of paper, and that orb finally rested, perching oddly on top of her head as she worked out her numbers. Just my luck to see more of her creatures come out then; my thoughts were interrupted by the revolting sound of damp sludge, not unlike gruel launched from a spoon. Foul! Pugnacious! A gelatinous green cube, animated grotesquely with each hop and leaving vile globs of slimy byproduct across the floor!

“Ohhh…” I watched in horror as the medicine women bent over to receive the slime in her arms, cooing at it and ruining both her fingers and her royal purple dress with its byproducts. “Do you see slimes much at the guilds, sir?”

“Er, much, no. Indeed, I—will admit they’re not the usual pet I see in the shops either…”

“They’re quite friendly, really. They follow my tenants back up the stairs when they pass through here, and my regulars love them. I had one of them ask where he could get a slime of his own, but they’re really rather endangered, I’m afraid…”

Oh, right, and the Josh Joplin song’s lyrics:

I want to be down
I want to get up
I want to lay low
I want to be loved

But a dream makes noise
You better check your head
Ambition is mine
And it’s heavy as lead

The sum of any outcome
Undone

I want to find peace
I want to get through
I want to come clean
I want to be true

As I turn a page
On a life less lived
Everything I have
I would gladly give

The sum of any outcome
Undone

I am mine, I am mine again
I recognize who it is that I am
I am mine, I am mine again
Can anyone tell me where I’ve been?

I am mine, I am mine again
All I lost is time in the end
Waiting for the sum of any outcome
Undone

And I want to find faith
And I want to be sure
I want to say less
And I want to know more

But I’m not alone
I never have been
We are all one
We divide within

The sum of any outcome
Undone

I am mine, I am mine again
I recognize who it is that I am
I am mine, I am mine again
Can anyone tell me where I’ve been?

I am mine, I am mine again
All we lost is time in the end
Waiting for the sum of any outcome
Undone
